Tom Birding
Tom and Jean visited some of the birding sites in Peninsular Malaysia - exploring the mangrove and paddy fields in northern Selangor, the hill station of Fraser’s Hill, the challenging forest trails of Taman Negara as well as Weng Chun’s favorite patch in Hulu Langat and the heronry in Putrajaya. Fauzi was the guide for the first 2 days while Adam substituted him after Fauzi suddenly fell sick. Later, Weng Chun took over the role in Taman Negara and Hulu Langat. In Taman Negara, we didn’t bird in Lubok Simpon - Jenut Muda - Tembeling River Trail junction.

Some of the highlights in this trip include
- Black Magpie - splendid view of 3 birds during the last few hours in Hulu Langat. Calls were heard while in Taman Negara.
- Malayan Whistling Thrush - with instructions given by Weng Chun, the endemic whistling thrush was sighted.
- Rhinoceros Hornbill - the boat ride to Lata Berkoh seems to provide a few good encounters such as this large hornbill. It came from the back of the boat and perch exactly in front of everyone - the fig tree is the main attraction for this hornbill.
- Asian Paradise Flycatcher - this white morph with long tail appeared out of nowhere and display itself for everyone on the boat. This is Weng Chun’s 2nd encounter with the white morph this year - after having recorded this in Fraser’s Hill while walking with Dan Peak along Telekom Loop.
