Stork Nests Update
Great news. The chicks have grown. A history for the city of Putrajaya as the herons, storks and egrets have adapted well to the man-made wetland. Our previous experiences tell us a heronry will not last long in a place when the trees died. Let’s hope the authority will figure out a plan to establish a long term heronry in the city.
Ever since the first sighting in Upper West 1, Putrajaya Wetland in 1st July 5 years ago and other regular sightings nearby, I was hoping that the storks will successfully establish a new resident colony and breed within this new city. Everything required to build a home is here. The island heronry is surrounded by deeper water to prevent 2-legged predators stealing their eggs while food is abundance as shallow water in all the wetland cells allow them to wade and feed.
Years ago, while I was still working in the wetland, I have spotted a few juvenile birds feeding in the cell. I was wondering where they come from? Do they come all the way from the zoo? Is there any nesting occur somewhere near or within Putrajaya? When the storks first appeared in the heronry while the herons are nesting, I really think there could be a possibility that the stork will someday call it their home.

interesting! havent been visiting wetlands for a while, painted storks have been nesting at the taman tasik shah alam.
